How Will Motherhood Change My Writing?

As spring rolls in, the cool yet humid air blows into my living room windows and the first hummingbirds of the season make their appearance. It feels fresh, new, hopeful. It feels like my pending future.

The Lord is making me into a mom, and not only leading my husband towards a BEST DAD award, but He’s also leading him into a pastoral program at our church. This doesn’t just change our lives; it will change my writing.

I’m excited to see where my little side of the internet goes, but I also can’t plan for what will happen.

I have a few posts I’ve been working on for months (important questions before getting married, discerning God’s will, etc.), but because this blog is all in God’s hands, those posts haven’t seen the light of day yet.

While I can’t dictate what will happen, I can tell you what my hopes are for this upcoming, long season of my life.

These things aren’t promised because tomorrow is unknown to all, but here is what I expect and pray happens for Sunshine in the Haze:

  • I pray, God-willing, I will continue to write amidst the chaos of raising a child and watching God use my husband within the walls of our church.
  • My blog will remain in God’s sovereign hand and timing, meaning my writing schedule will undoubtedly change. I don’t know how—better or worse—but God will be in it.
  • New topics are bound to pop up. Perhaps my adventures with pregnancy, birth, motherhood, being a wife in the thick of exhaustion and overflowing joy, finding myself again, and per usual, overcoming fears. If my husband completes his pastoral training and is called to pursue a pastoral role, I’m sure that will also meet my platform.

I don’t simply write to document my life, I also write as an outlet of processing big changes and encouraging my readers—you—to run the race God has placed in front of them.

Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him,he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:1-2, CSB (emphasis added)

Hopefully, this short post clears up any questions about the permanence of my blog. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask away, and I’ll do my best to answer!

Throw back to my 7 week bump photo (before I got too sick to take cute pics & clean my mirror 😅)
