Your ears ring with the awful silence you find every time you ask God what to do next with your life. You’re starting to wonder when unanswered prayers will become blessings.
It’s a feeling I know all too well. I know God leans in as I choke out another prayer, but sometimes I still need a reminder.
What better thing to do than share the Bible verses that have been helping me through the silence?
Is God Silent, or Is He Quiet?
Before we begin, I want to draw your attention this question: Is God actually silent, or are you not paying attention?
I believe there are seasons that God remains “silent”, but from my experience, 9 times out of 10, I’m not paying attention. When we focus all our energy on the our worries, we won’t be able to hear God—our surroundings are too loud.
If you feel like God is being silent, start paying attention to the small things He might be doing. Did a Bible verse stand out to you at church? Has a friend asked you out for coffee to talk about life? Did a doughnut randomly show up on your desk at work, reminding you that you’re important?
Even if it seems silly or trivial, all these small things can be God’s way of drawing you near and helping you find your footing. It’s easy to brush off little things, instead of thanking God for them.
I challenge you to slow down and think about anything you might’ve missed because maybe God isn’t being silent. Maybe you’re struggling to hear Him because of how loud your surroundings are.
6 Bible Verses For When Life Feels Like It’s Going Nowhere
These Bible verses are for when you feel confused and stuck in the waiting period. Whether you are waiting for marriage, children, financial breakthrough, or even healing, these verses are specifically picked out for YOU.
Psalm 127:1-2
Unless the Lord builds the house,
Psalm 127:1-2, NKJV
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman stays awake in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early,
To sit up late,
To eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep.
When you toss and turn in bed, losing sleep about the troubles in your life or concerns of your heart, ask God to give you rest. Spiritual and physical rest.
Got Questions explains it like this, “All that we accomplish in life will be for naught if the Lord is not in it. We can “build,” and we can “watch,” but it is the Lord who gives success.“
Proverbs 3:5-8
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
Proverbs 3:5-8, NKJV
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.
When you’re not sure whether to turn right or left, don’t forget your core values as a Christian.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, following all His commandments, and He will guide you whichever way you need to go—when it’s time.
Furthermore, fear the Lord, standing in awe of His power and praising Him through the confusion. Worship is a crucial part of your walk with God.
Ecclesiastes 3:12-15
I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God.
Ecclesiastes 3:12-15, NKJV
I know that whatever God does,
it shall be forever.
Nothing can be added to it,
And nothing taken from it.
God does it, that men should fear before Him.
That which is has already been,
And what is to be has already been;
And God requires an account of what is past.
Speaking of worship, there is a time to mourn and a time to dance, but I’m thankful that God sustains our joy throughout the thick and thin, reminding us of what is good and pure.
When I start to feel lost, I get so stuck in my mind that I forget to look UP at the One who deserves my attention. Worship is just as powerful as prayer.
If you feel stuck, you should really read Ecclesiastes 3:1-15, but it’s a little too long for a simple blog post, so I only shared part of it.
Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known?
Isaiah 40:28-31, NKJV (emphasis added)
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
This is a common passage to share, but I want to draw your attention to verse 31. Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.
Sometimes stagnant seasons are a good thing. A brief pause before moving onto the next chapter.
I try to jump ahead every. single. time.
But what if chasing the next big thing is actually disobedience? If you told a child they had to wait to cross the road, but they crossed anyways, isn’t that disobedience?
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27, NKJV
John 14 starts with the disciples fearing the unknown of Jesus leaving them, but Jesus explains all they need to know and leaves them with words of peace, not fear.
I wrestle with doubt and fear often, so this scenario speaks loudly to me. He even says—against my own feelings—He will never leave us orphans. He sent His Spirit down (John 14:18).
Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Romans 12:1-2, NKJV
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Not like a living sacrifice but straight to the point. You are a living sacrifice for the Lord. Through the grace of God, your life is being transformed and your mind renewed.
As you sit in the muck, let His Spirit flow through you, continuing your journey towards being a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.
This transformative season is what will lead you to understand the good and perfect will of God for your life.
When Your Sticky Situation Turns Into Rejoicing
I’m in the middle of the rut with you, but I keep trying to refocus my attention on the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:5-6). The Lord has delivered me every time I’ve earnestly sought Him with my whole heart. He will do it again!
He turns our mourning into dancing (Psalms 30:11-12). Why praise Him on the other side when we could praise Him right now for what He’s going to do in the future?
