Guest Post: Biblical Affirmations for the Anxious Heart (+ A Freebie)

Today, I have something very special to share. My writer friend, Leah, has written a beautiful blog post for us!

If your heart is feeling anxious, let this be the beginning of freedom. Let her words be your breath of fresh air.

10 Biblical Affirmations for the Anxious Heart

From trying something terrifying, to receiving bad news, and everything else in between, fear and anxiety daily threaten us. In fact, they do more than threaten us— fear and anxiety want to destroy our destinies.

The amount of anxiety, fear, and depression that I see all around me can seem overwhelming, especially when I realize it’s with so many people my age.

But God has been showing me one thing: there is nothing worth losing my peace over.

I want you to know this: fear and anxiety are real—I’m not denying that—but God’s healing, freeing power is real too. He promises us victory in this life.

The Bible is full of verses that are assuring and calming, promising us that God is faithful, He is our protector, and there is nothing to fear when we are abiding in Him.

So, today, I’ll be sharing 10 verses to remind you of the truth of God’s Word, and at the end of this post, I’ll be offering a free aesthetic download of all these scriptures.

God doesn’t give fear to you

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.”

Other versions translate the word that was used for discipline with “sound judgment”, “sound mind”, or “self–control”.

Basically, God doesn’t make us timid, fearful, or anxious. He has given us His Holy Spirit who empowers us to live in His power, love, and discipline.

God will not allow you to be shaken

“Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” – Psalm 55:22

This verse is such a beautiful reminder that God protects His children! We aren’t supposed to bear our heavy burdens alone, but cast them upon God, completely getting rid of them.

And you know what God will do for us? He will never allow us to be shaken by our circumstances or emotions.

God will watch over you

In 2 Timothy 4:18, Paul says, “The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom.”

Here, Paul was reminding young Timothy that God could—and would—rescue him from evil, and on top of protection in this world, God would also bring him safely to heaven. God’s promise for Paul is the same for you!

God will give you perfect peace

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You [God] keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in You.”

God doesn’t want us to be anxious, He promises us perfect peace, but we have to cooperate with Him and do our part—we need to keep our mind focused on Him!

God gives you divine protection

Isaiah 54:17 says, “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper;”.

This is such an incredible reminder that God gives His children special protection, telling us, not that no weapon will be formed against us, but that it won’t prosper. We are so safe with Jesus!

God gives you authority over the enemy

“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7

Those words hold such promise; they give such hope. We are assured—by God—that when we, as believers, resist the devil, He will flee from us.

But, like most of the promises of God, we have to do our part as well. We are to submit to God, obeying His Word and His Spirit. The enemy will have to run for the hills!

God is our strong tower

Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe.”

This is the perfect picture of safety. What sounds like a better place to be when you’re in danger than a strong tower? That’s just what the name of the Lord is. There is so much power—and safety—in the name of Jesus!

God fights for us

One of my favorite verses is Exodus 14:14: “The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”

I love this because it reminds me that I am not strong enough to fight for myself, but God is. Not only is He able, He is willing!

Again, our part of the “deal” here is this: keep silent. Anxiety, panic, and stress aren’t silent. We can overcome that by casting our burdens on the Lord, knowing and believing in faith that God will fight for us.

God strengthens us to do His will

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” How often we hear this verse! I know, at least for myself, it’s gotten dull and repetitive at times, something that became so normal I forgot the power of it.

When you actually think about what this means, however, it’s mind blowing! We can literally do all things through Christ who strengthens us?!

Yes, because 2 Timothy 3:16–17 reminds us that we are equipped for every good work, and 2 Peter 1:3 says that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness.

So yes, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us—even beat anxiety once and for all!

God’s love casts out fear

1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” This is one of my favorite verses out there about fear. Because do you know what—or Who—perfect love is?

It’s God. If we want no fear, the only way we can have that is through God, and more specifically, His love.

His love is perfect. When you understand how deep His love for you is—and how it affects your everyday lives—there will be absolutely no reason for you to fear.

Why would you, with such a loving, protective God for a father and friend? I’m preaching to myself here.

In Conclusion…

I hope that this post gave you a glimpse into what the Bible says about you, God, and anxiety.

God’s desire is that you live in freedom, even from fear and anxiety. He only wants the very best for you, because you are treasured, valued, and loved.

Out of all of this, if you only take away one thing, let it be this: God loves you so much. He is your protector, your provider, your father, your friend, your savior. He wants to be your everything… All because of love.

When you start to understand His love for you, fear loses its grasp on you. I promise.

Again, I want you to know this: fear and anxiety are real, but God’s healing, freeing power is real too. He promises us victory in this life.

What’s your favorite verse about combatting fear? Do you have any stories you would like to share of a time God helped you through an anxious situation?
